LPS Welcome Center for English Learners Open House

LPS welcomes the community to an Open House at our Welcome Center for English Learners on Thursday, September 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Welcome Center is located at 936 N. 70th Street, on the north side of the Meadowlane Shopping Center.
Please join us for some international treats and tea, as well as a tour and to visit with our staff, including some of our Bilingual Liaisons to learn more about the services provided to EL students in LPS!
The Welcome Center for English Learners is where LPS assesses the language skills of each student in preparation for school registration, with staff helping to complete required paperwork. A home language survey is first administered to determine if a student is a potential English Learner (EL) student, and if so, a language proficiency assessment is administered to determine eligibility and language level within LPS. School registration is then completed at the new student’s school. There are just over 2900 students that are identified as English Learners throughout the district.
