NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

The NAACP, Lincoln Branch’s Freedom Fund Banquet: Thriving Together will be Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, 333 South 13th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. There will be a social hour from 5 to 6pm followed by dinner and the program. Tickets are $65 for adults and $45 for students (K-12).

Our keynote speaker will be Preston Love, Jr., a community activist and leader who has dedicated his life to fighting for social justice. Love is the founder/director of Black Voices Matter Institute of Community Engagement and of the Institute for Urban Development. Love is a writer for Omaha World Herald, adjunct Black History and Political Science Professor at UNO, a small business owner and author of several books including the most recent, “Wisdon’s Foresight: From Cataracts to Pandemic Vaccines to New Horizons.” Love also has a leadership role in the “North Omaha Project” recently passed by the Nebraska Legislature. Mr. Love has dedicated his life to fighting for social justice.

The NAACP, Lincoln Branch, was founded in 1918 and has played a vital role in improving the lives of the socially, politically and economically disenfranchised. We have strived together to identify, prioritize and advocate for the needs of our community by collaborating with other organizations, educating our community, promoting civil rights and encouraging community service. The theme for this year’s banquet is “Thriving Together.”

The proceeds from the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet support the mission of the Lincoln Branch NAACP and our scholarship program. Every spring, the NAACP, Lincoln Branch grants Community Service Scholarships to a diverse group of Lincoln high school graduating seniors who will attend a post-secondary accredited institution. This year, we hope to raise enough money to award $5,000 in scholarships with proceeds from the 2023 Freedom Fund Banquet.
